Enrolling in Post Rock District 4-H Shooting Sports
All youth 8 years old before January 1 of the current program year can participate in 4-H Shooting Sports. You MUST be actively enrolled in Shooting Sports via 4-H Online to be able to attend any practice or activity. In Post Rock District, in addition to enrolling in 4-H Online, there is a Shooting Sports project participation fee of $10.00, due to your 4-H Council before you can attend any activity. You can only enroll in a discipline supported by Post Rock District. Tonia Underwood, tiunderw@ksu.edu, serves as our District's certified Shooting Sports Coordinator. Here are the adult volunteers that are certified by Kansas 4-H.

  • Archery Instructors: Stede Underwood
  • Shotgun Instructors: Karen Panter / Dean Heise
  • BB Gun/ Air Rifle Instructor: Jeff Cady

Shooting Sports Project Fee Due by December 12, 2025 for 2024-2025 Program Year
If you enrolled in a Shooting Sports project, you need to pay your County 4-H Council the $10.00 project participation fee. One amount is due regardless of number of disciplines enrolled in. The project fee supports the special requirements needed to maintain a 4-H Shooting Sports Program in the Post Rock District. If you do not submit your fee by the deadline, you will be removed from Shooting Sports project enrollment. You will not be able to re-enroll in the project disciplines until the fee is paid.

Shooting Sports Instructor Training
As our program grows, we are in great need of more certified instructors! You must be certified to be able to instruct youth in the 4-H Shooting Sports program. Kansas 4-H Shooting Sports hosts Level 1 Shooting Sports Instructor training each year. Reach out if interested in learning about upcoming trainings! New instructors must be screened and registered as a 4-H volunteer which includes enrolling in 4-H Online, completing a background check, completing an orientation, and being approved by the Post Rock District. You must also complete the National 4-H Shooting Sports online modules before attending the in-person Instructor Training. You can be trained in one discipline at each training - rifle, archery, pistol, hunting skills, shotgun, muzzleloader, or coordinator. Contact Tonia Underwood at tiunderw@ksu.edu to get the process started for you to become a certified instructor!

Upcoming 4-H Shooting Sports Discipline Practices

Practices Required to Compete: A variety of shooting sports activities are planned for the spring by our Post Rock District-certified instructors. Youth properly enrolled in the respective disciplines will receive emails sharing about practices. Be sure to get enrolled in 4-H Online if you want to participate. You must attend practices to be eligible to compete at 4-H matches. Post Rock District has instructors for BB gun, Archery, and Shotgun. Contact Tonia at tiunderw@ksu.edu if you have questions.

  • Archery Qualifier in Post Rock District on July 27: Stede Underwood, certified instructor, is planning to organize a 4-H Archery Qualifier at Glen Elder State Park on July 27. Save the date. Details will be emailed to members enrolled in the archery project as they become available. You have to qualify for State Archery at a local qualifier. You can attend a qualifier anywhere in Kansas, and you are allowed to attend as many as you want to register for.
