Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same.

  • Kansas Home*A*Syst – An Environmental Guide for the home: Kansas Home*A*Syst is a confidential self-assessment program you can use to evaluate your home and property for pollution and health risks. In every home there are potential pollution sources.

  • National Healthy Homes PartnershipThis searchable site has been created to provide you with information to help you create that healthy home for yourself and your family.  It provides information to help you determine if your home is healthy and provides educational resources to make any needed improvements to get you to a healthy home. The site includes valuable resources for consumers, families and educators.

Radon

  • Radon Test Kit:  To purchase an easy to use and low-cost radon test kit visit your local Post Rock Extension District Office during regular business hours.

  • AirChek Radon Test Kit Placement and Retrieval Instructions: An AirCheck Radon Test Kit can be purchased at your local Post Rock District Office. This document is included inside each AirChek Radon Test Kit. Read the instructions before use.   • Kansas Radon Program (KRP): The KRP provides informational services to Kansas residents on radon via distance delivery at www.kansasradonprogram.org and directly through the state radon hotline at 1-800-693-5343.  The hotline is answered live Monday through Friday during business hours.  The KRP website has multiple fact sheets available for download (www.kansasradonprogram.org/factsheets) that cover a variety of topics from general information to do-it-yourself radon mitigation.

  • National Radon Program: The NRP is led by Engineering Extension at Kansas State University and provides national level technical assistance for the EPA aimed at promoting public awareness of radon, increased testing, and mitigation for radon in homes, schools and buildings.   • A Citizen’s Guide to Radon: The EPA  and CDC provides this guide to assist with protecting yourself and your family from radon. The guide includes a variety of topics from general information to do-it-yourself radon mitigation.

  • Poison Control Center: Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222.Poison centers offer free, confidential medical advice 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This service provides a primary resource for poisoning information and helps reduce costly hospital visits through in-home treatment.
  • American Cleaning Institute® (ACI)The ACI works to share information on the safe, beneficial and proper use of cleaning and hygiene products. The ACI is the home of the U.S. Cleaning Products Industry™
  • Stain Solutions : This online resource by the University of Illinois Extension includes a comprehensive list of stain solutions. Each solution contains the supplies you will need and the preferred method for cleaning the stain.
  • Odor Neutralizers:

  • Green Cleaning: Green cleaning recipes and resources from the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension.
  • Consumer Product Information Database (CPID)CPID contains information about the ingredients of products and their health effects to allow consumers to make better informed choices. It contains information for products used in the home and in some commercial/institutional settings. 
  • Essential Living Skills: K-State Research and Extension publications with information and self-paced learning activities to assist with home management responsibilities.
    • Essential Home Maintenance: This curriculum helps participants learn about safe, affordable cleaning methods; develop strategies for controlling clutter; and understand important factors in home safety.
    • Apparel Management: This curriculum guides participants through evaluating personal and family wardrobes, making economical clothing purchases, basic sewing techniques, and good laundry practices.

Indoor Air Quality

  • Care for Your Air – A Guide to Indoor Air Quality: This guide provided by the EPA helps individuals, families, and communities understand how the air we breathe in our homes, in schools, and in offices can put us at risk for health problems. Some pollutants can be chemicals, gases, and living organisms like mold and pests.
